Simulation in sports applications: Case study

At Manchester Metropolitan University the Sports Engineering Research TEAM undertake a wide range of research including equipment design, healthcare and injury prevention, apparel and biomechanics.
In this talk, I will highlight a range of the work that is taking place focusing on finite element analysis (FEA) and the use of ANSYS/LS DYNA. The talk will cover a range of topics including tennis racket design, simulation of ball impacts, understanding auxetic structures and wrist protector design. I shall give a brief overview of these components with the main focus of my talk being on my PhD project looking at the development of a FE model to assess the influence of wrist protector design in snowboarding.
