Humanoid robots a hit as EDS 2016 comes to a close

21 October 2016

The Engineering Design Show (EDS) returned to the Ricoh Arena, Coventry for its fifth year on 19-20 October with a fresh new look and feel. Here we look back at the best bits of a successful two days...

For 2016 there were even more opportunities to try out the latest design tools and techniques and ask the experts probing questions at EDS.

The Eureka! And New Electronics Conference brought together industry experts, innovators and emerging technologies and provided our visitors with powerful content providing insights into the future of engineering design.

One of the highlights was the Innovation Zone, where visitors interacted with the two humanoid robots, the Robothespian and Socibot. Both robots were designed for human interaction in a public environment, and after more than six years of continuous development, they are fully interactive, multilingual, and user-friendly.

Across the two days of the show, the robots kept visitors entertained and represented a prime example of brilliant British innovation and design.

New for this year, and also one of the most popular areas of the show, was the Future Zone with visitors getting hands-on with Virtual Reality, courtesy of the immersive, interactive 3D visualisation systems supplied by Virtalis and the AMRC.

We would like to thank all our visitors, speakers and exhibitors for attending the show, we hope you found it enjoyable and informative.

EDS will return to the Ricoh Arena on 18-19 October 2017 and we hope to see you there! For the latest updates and news for next year, visit www.engineering-design-show.co.uk
